Why do small and toy breeds require dedicated dental attention?

How quickly does tartar accumulate, and why is it easy to miss?

Plaque begins forming within 24 hours after a meal. If it isn't disrupted, it can begin hardening into tartar within 72 hours, which typically requires a professional veterinary scaling to remove. Because early plaque buildup is nearly invisible and dogs rarely show obvious signs of oral discomfort early on, dental care needs are often easy to miss until bad breath develops.

MUNCH™ chews complement mechanical scraping with a mineral phosphate system, a common addition in modern oral care. Tartar forms when minerals naturally present in your dog’s saliva bind to soft plaque. The mineral phosphates are included to bind with these salivary calcium ions first, helping to reduce the rate at which plaque mineralizes into hard tartar. 

Why are propolis and spirulina included in the formulation?

Comprehensive oral care involves supporting the entire mouth environment, not just the teeth. We include propolis, a natural bee resin recognized in research for its mild antimicrobial properties, alongside spirulina, a blue-green algae used to help soothe and support healthy gum tissue as your dog chews. 

When is the most effective time to give my dog a MUNCH™ chew?

We recommend offering a chew within 30 to 60 minutes after a meal. Because plaque formation accelerates after eating, introducing a chew during this window allows the mechanical wiping action to disrupt early, soft biofilm before it has time to heavily accumulate. 

Does using MUNCH™ mean I can stop brushing my dog's teeth?

No, they are designed to work together as a team. Traditional brushing is highly effective for cleaning the flat, outer surfaces of the teeth. A flexible dental chew helps extend that care by reaching into tight interdental spaces and the rear molars that a toothbrush can easily miss.

Is there an adjustment period when introducing these chews?

Most adult dogs transition seamlessly. However, if your dog has a sensitive stomach or is starting our Cultured Yogurtvariant—which introduces live Lactobacillus rhamnosus cultures—we suggest starting with half a portion for the first few days. A brief, mild shift in stool consistency can occasionally happen while their digestive system adjusts.
